A stereotype is used to categorize a group of people. Stereotypes are similar to racism, because stereotyping is a type of racism. Assuming everyone of a certain race acts the same is extremely racist. For example For example assuming an Asian person is very smart is a stereotype and is racist. Stereotyping can also be sexist.
I agree with the author Claude M. Steele because I think the effect of stereotyping have on someone is that it strips the person of their individuality and put them in a group that they don’t belong in. it’s make people make assumptions about others based on age, gender, and appearance and make it’s hard to get to know that people for who they are. If a person try to prove someone wrong about a stereotyping than the other person might call them racist or be rude to them. So they just let people to say a negative stereotype about them even if it not true.

Any stereotype is made based off of prejudgments. People who do take stereotypes into consideration when judging a person can make assumptions on others from multiple sources, such as peers, the media, including facts. The main concern when it comes to stereotypes is the way people apply it towards everyone based off of a person’s gender, race or culture, which results in either negative or positive stereotype. Either way, both conventions can equally affect a person by altering how a person will feel about themselves. Negative stereotypes overall causes harm to possible new relationships, creates an impractical standard for people to meet; while, positive stereotypes can create false assumptions about people, making a person feel imperfect.

STEREOTYPING MANYA WADHWA 2012144 As mentioned in my previous journal, after researching into human thinking that is not supported by a critical analysis, it was found that the human brain tends to wrap itself around the popular public opinion, prejudices, stereotypes etc. The worst part about this is that the people tend to believe in these without knowing enough about it, or without even giving it a second thought. I initially thought that stereotypes and prejudices were something similar. However, after class and after reading about it I realized that they are pretty different.

A Liberal Arts education provides the learner with a broad range of information to help guide them in a direction that create intellectual growth. A stereotype is an idea or image overused on a person or thing. We tend to start stereotyping at a young age which is extremely problematic. It may be a positive or negative stereotype, but stereotypes in general do no good besides teaching children that labeling based on race,religion, and/or appearance is okay. These stereotypes affect how we treat other people and how people treat you. I've never suffered like African Americans or poor people do with stereotyping, so i've never truly been affected by stereotypes.
But what is stereotyping? According to the dictionary, stereotype is defined as “a simplified and standardised conception or image invested with special meaning and help in common by members of a group.” Moreover, it is considered as a form of prejudice, as people are putting labels about how a person should act or live according to their gender, nationality, religion, personality or appearance. This creates pre judgment, including misconceptions, which can develop further, leading to bigger problems and complications. Society can be broken down into many groups or categories and there are all sorts of categories within stereotyping, which are the tools used to stereotype.
Stereotyping is a way of categorizing certain groups of people or types of individuals with regards to gender, race, culture, religion etc. Stereotyping arises from prior assumptions due to influences by the media, history and personal experience. The statement: “To gain an understanding of the world we need to make use of stereotypes,” appears that stereotyping is required in order to really understand the world, and knowledge issues can be drawn from this statement: Does stereotyping prevent us from knowing someone truly and how are stereotypes created in the first place? One way to examine and discuss the knowledge issues is to look at different areas of knowledge, which in our case will be History and Human Science.
"A Hanging" by George Orwell is a shocking non-fiction text describing Orwell's experience as a police officer in Burma in the 1930's. following the story of a Hindu man on his way to his execution through the eyes of Orwell as he discovers the great value of human life as he is a witness to the mistreatment of the Burmese prisoners. He expresses his views through symbolism, structure, setting and turning point to convey the horrific reality of capital punishment. Orwell establishes the poor treatment of the prisoners at the very beginning of the text by using setting as he describes " A sodden morning of the rains" This gives the reader a very clear image of a dark and dreary jail yard as "sodden" suggests something wet and cold.
In today 's society we encounter and face numerous problems that can be solved. In everyday life we as human beings walk around giving other individuals stereotypes without realizing that we are doing so. One of Society 's biggest problems that we are facing right now is stereotyping people. Stereotyping people has so much of a negative effect on our society.
Stereotyping, isn’t something new to our generation but has been around for as long as time can tell. Stereotypes come in many forms such as, races, genders, national groups, or other groups. Stereotypes are judgements based on a few obvious characteristics, which sometimes lead to unfair assumptions. Stereotypes affect many aspects of individuals’ lives, from how people are treated in social or professional situations to the manner in which civilians are dealt with by law enforcement and the judicial system. It can be hard to imagine the negative impact of a stereotype about a group that is falsely categorized.
