Their success is due to Steve Harris’s vision of where he wants the band to go. He is the band leader, so most of the band’s music gets ran through so he can put his own creative stamp on music. This creative stamp, just like the rest of the band was inspired by bands like Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendricks, and Led Zeppelin. These inspirations helped give the band a sound that was unique to their own. Just like their sound, their mascot Eddie is unique and personifies the band. Eddie is the bands greatest weapon for what he can do to the music. Eddie allows the music to go to a whole new level because he express the true meaning of it and show you what emotions to feel during a song. Things like this made American teenagers want to buy the bands albums. They saw this and loved how the band incorporated artwork and music. These teenagers realized that Maiden had restarted the metal genre from its death bed in the late 1970s. Iron Maiden made metal relevant in the late 1970s and made people love the genre.
