Bernard Maybeck Bernard Maybeck was an eclectic American architect of the late 19th and early 20th century. He was known for his ability to fuse and experiment with many different styles of architecture, creating a blend of modern and historicism in his buildings. First serving as a teacher and then as an architect he influenced and shaped the Bay Area as it grew. To begin with, Bernard Maybeck was born in the outskirts of New York to German immigrant parents. His father, being a carpenter wanted young Maybeck to draw and work with his hands.

Daniel Sickles was a man who committed murder, and got away with it and almost lost the U.S. the Battle of Gettysburg, and an outspoken politician. Sickles murdered his wife’s lover and pleaded that he was insane, and he got away with it. He was also a very bad general and cost the Union military in the Battle of Chancellorsville and almost lost them the Battle of Gettysburg. As a politician Sickles would be the military of governor of South Carolina during Reconstruction and preserved the Gettysburg battlefield and established it as a National Military Park. Ronald Gene Simmons began a killing spree on December 22, 1987 that culminated in the worst mass murder occurrence in Arkansas history six days later. He killed sixteen people during this short period of time; fourteen of his victims were members of his own family. Ronald was born forty seven years earlier on July, 15, 1940 in the city of Chicago. His father, William Simmons, died of a stroke before Ronald’s second birthday. Simmons’s mother remarried within a year of his father’s untimely passing.
Referred to as “the best representative of the Mexican sculptural movement at the time” by Diego Rivera, I chose to do my research on Guatemalan painter and sculptor Rafael Yela Günther. I am attracted to his work because long before I knew who he was I saw some of his sculptures personally in Guatemala and I was truly impressed. Naturally my interest to know more about his artwork grew when I learned that Rivera had some influence on him during their time working together in Teotihuacan. Larry Hiibel was arrested and convicted in Nevada state court for failing to identify himself to a police officer who was investigating an assault. Some states including Nevada, has a law that requires a person to tell an officer his name if asked. Larry Hiibel challenged the conviction, claiming it violated his Fourth and Fifth Amendments, the right not to incriminate himself and to be free from unreasonable searches. The state intermediate court and Supreme Court rejected his argument in affirming the conviction. At first when I read this I think that this arrest and conviction violated Larry Hiibel Fourth and Fifth Amendment because he was arrested for the action of remaining silent but in a 5-to-4 opinion written by Justice Anthony Kennedy,
Chef Rick Bayless was born on November 23, 1953 in Oklahoma City. He grew up in a food-oriented family, his parents owned Hickory House for 36 years, which is a barbeque restaurant and his grandfather also owned a burger and milkshake drive-in. He attended the University of Oklahoma, and graduated with a bachelor degree on Spanish and Latin American culture. Afterwards, he attended the University of Michigan pursuing doctoral work in anthropological linguistics, but he never graduated. He then moved to Mexico and lived there for about 6 years with his wife Deann Groen Bayless, there he wrote his first book Authentic Mexican: Regional Cooking from the Heart of Mexico.

Dorothy Draper, the first to “professionalize” the interior design industry by establishing the first interior design company in the United States. Elsie de Wolfe was an American decorator born in New York City. Besides being an interior decorator she was also a professional actress that performed various light comic and historical roles throughout the 1890s.
Gottfried Semper was a major figure in the field of Interior designing. He was an architect and an art critic who contributed majorly to the study of interiors .He proposed his ideas and thoughts in his book, “Four elements of architecture”, in the year 1952 and it was a huge success. In his book, he developed the theory that origin of architecture could be dated back to the primitive era when human civilization was at its peak. As compared to the modern ideology that architecture consists of structures made from materials, his theory revolved around the four main elements of the primitive era that were essential to human life.
