Steven Spielberg once said “People have forgotten how to tell a story. Stories don't have a middle or an end any more. They usually have a beginning that never stops beginning”. Filmmaking is an artistic way of telling a story that entices the audience or keeps the audience on edge. With the invention of the motion picture camera, filmmaking originated in the early 1980s. The first glimpse of film started of as short stories or single scenes that resembled stage productions. Towards the end of the Victorian Era, the film world changed completely. Directors implemented editing and storytelling. Between 1902 and 1930, techniques such as double exposure, stop motion, camera angles, dissolves, lighting and sound became a revolution to the film world. A film director has a myriad of responsibilities that can either make or break a film. The director influences and controls the film’s artistic and dramatic aspects. They assist with cast formation and creates the overall vision. Through the years, the world has seen extraordinary directors with extensive film making experience. Raiders of the Lost Ark landed Spielberg with several Oscar nominations including Best Film Director. He went on to producing four more box office hits, including E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Spielberg dominated the 90s with the use of revolutionary special effects, something no other producers or directors conceived. In the early 90s, he produced and directed Peter Pan and Jurassic Park. In the mid-90s, Spielberg took a short break from directing and built his own studio called Dream Works. He returned a couple years after that and created the sequel to Jurassic Park, Amistad and Saving Private Ryan.
