It is said by many that “ dog is man’s best friend.” Throughout the story, of Stickeen by John Muir, the reader can see how Stickeen becomes Muir’s best friend. Stickeen and Muir had experiences throughout the journey that bring them closer. Stickeen would never leave Muir’s side once they started the journey. They started to have stronger bond once they showed loyalty, companionship, and love towards one another. Stickeen showed affection and appreciation towards Muir. However, Muir did not care as much for Stickeen at first. He thought that he was going to be “useless” and be an obstacle throughout. However, he was the opposite of an obstacle. He showed how adventurous he was and how he kept everyone company. In addition, Stickeen always followed Muir everywhere he went. “Stickeen always insisted on going with me, however, wild the weather.” (Muir 30) Stickeen never wanted to leave Muir’s side showing his loyalty toward him. …show more content…
