“Stop Setting Alarms on My Biological Clock” written by Carrie Friedman is about her experience about other mothers asking Friedman why doesn’t she have any children. Friedman wants mothers to stay out of her business since the decision of having children doesn’t concern them. Friedman isn’t sure if she is even able to produce offspring since she haven’t tried starting a family. Mothers should keep in mind that many women don’t have ability to have children. Friedman then points out that mothers that abandon their own life passions are setting a bad example to other women into not wanting them to become mothers. One reason Friedman has is the fact the topic on wanting to start a family is very personal. Friedman points out that people should avoid asking women why haven’t had any children because women might be infertile which is when women and including men are unable to reproduce.
The next reason by Friedman is “Mothers shouldn’t completely abandon your own life and passions. You’re setting a bad example for aspiring mothers-to-be like me.” Friedman shared her story when she had achieved a work-related subject. When her friend a mother told Friedman “Well, you don’t know happiness until you’ve had a baby.” Freidman believes mothers should be able to pursue their own dreams and happiness that doesn’t always surround their children.
Another reason by Friedman is parents should teach their children manners. Friedman shares a story she experienced when she crouched down to talk to a four-year-old when a young girl punched her in the face. When the mother of the girl said to Friedman, she shouldn’t talk down to children and didn’t apologize for her daughter actions.
