I have taken advantage of every opportunity that has been granted to me in high school, to better prepare myself for college. As a freshman, I was admitted into the UCSF Doctors Academy Program. This program, has exposed me to various health professions, enabling me to better understand what to expect from different health fields.
I have volunteered at the Storey Elementary After School Program. Highlight of my service was to go and help students, often from minority backgrounds, who struggle to meet learning expectation. I believe everyone should be given the opportunity to properly understand and learn new things even if it requires more individual help, because I was personally once in that position, and I understand how frustrating it can …show more content…

I was given the opportunity to shadow health professionals and was able to incorporate helpful information from them. This amazing experience because it allowed me to help and thank our Veterans.
I have also attended the 2016 Mini Med school. This was a six week program, where we had series of lectures given by health professionals held at the UCSF Latino Center, making us aware of all the chronic illnesses and other issues our community is spontaneously facing. I am passionate about going into the medical field, to help my community overcome challenges they are faced with in health care. My ultimate goal is to, work towards minimizing health disparities by helping my community overcome barriers in healthcare.
Just recently, over the summer, I participated in the 2016 Summer Internship and Research Program. During this six week summer program I volunteered at the Community Regional Medical Center in the Children's Clinic and along with doing my internship, I completed a research paper at Fresno State titled, “What are the risk factors of type 2 diabetes among Native American children as compared to non-Hispanic white children?”. Upon completion of this program, I presented my research project at a symposium at the UCSF Latino Center in Fresno, to various of health professionals and community
