The Story of an Hour I really adored The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin. I think that Chopin illustrates the idea that she was more human than woman through her main character Josephine. She wrote Josephine to be a strong woman, in search of her independence. The third person point of view was perfect here because the author was less limited in her writing. The main character of this story, Josephine, was a heroine because she was living in a time when women were dependent on men, and she was excited for freedom. Everyone expected her to be sad; but, in reality she was busy fantasizing about her new life. It was obvious that our writer did not believe any human should be enslaved by another. When Chopin wrote Josephine’s revelation, “There would be no powerful will bending hers in that blind persistence with which man and women believe they have a right to impose a private will upon a fellow creature.” (1895, p. 1610), it was easy to see she believed in the independence of women and all people alike. Chopin was proving women think just like any man. I think she was very successful at conveying her message to the audience. I think Chopin relays her message in a fun exciting way because our heroine fantasized the freedom of her life without a man, only to have her husband walk through the door, alive and well in the end!
