“The Story of an Hour” shows that marriage can be confining and limited for women especially in that time it was written, and it deals with a woman searching for her own identity and independence away from her husband. Louise has to process the news of her husband’s (not so) death. She receives the news from her sister Josephine, who thought that Louise might harm herself from so much grieving. Little does she know, Louise, in her time contemplating, realizes the painful marriage she was in, and a sense of relief came about her.
