A clear majority of American population watch cartoons and yet so many do not know how these artworks are made and how they go from being an idea to the finished product that ends up being shown on a network. Not many people know all the hard work that goes into animation today. I’d like to clarify the idea that animation is just something that happens as there are so many layers of the art medium that is cartoons, and I’d like to go further into the process, from the storyboarding to the voice acting, to character designing, to sound production and expand the common view of cartoons as simple, as they are far from such. With Steven Universe, Sugar has created quite a large fan base for her show as it is meant to cross demographics from children to adults alike. In many ways, her series is groundbreaking in terms of representational content by having LGBT themes having three of the four main characters be prominent strong female figures which is very rare in shows that are not obviously “girl-centered” cartoons. Sugar has won three Emmy awards for her animations, all for “Outstanding Short Form Animated Program” with one in 2011 for her work on Adventure Time as well as two consecutive awards in 2015 and 2016 for Steven …show more content…

His work features very adult subjects and jokes and his show Rick and Morty is a unique comedy heavy show mixture with science fiction themes as the show was originally inspired by the classic sci-fi fantasy film Back to the Future. The sense of humor of this show is akin to that of The Simpsons but is very much its own genre of comedy. Personally, I have seen a wide range of people who enjoy this show and it seems to stand apart from other adult comedy heavy cartoons of today because this show is based around a plot and not entirely separate episodes that have no continuity.

Alex Hirsch Alex Hirsch is the person behind Gravity Falls, yet another animation that crosses over audiences and genres, though possibly a bit more than Sugar’s Steven Universe. Gravity Falls is a mystery-comedy based animation which is full of hidden codes and cyphers which are scattered throughout the show as well as throughout credit scenes which also establishes that this show is not meant solely for children and creates a whole different aspect to the show that reaches out beyond the television format with entire groups of people deciphering the codes he uses and has even started a worldwide scavenger hunts.
