In the late 80s, Compton was full of gangs which caused violence in the area. This made it especially hard for kids to grow up without getting involved in these groups. The movie “Straight Outta Compton” is about teenage African Americans who revolutionized the hip-hop world and challenged social norms. They empower people through music to stand up for their rights and not be discriminated against. They grew up in the projects in Compton, California, and are targeted by the police. These kids saw music as their way out of Compton and formed a group that we know today as N.W.A. Their rise during the Reagan administration was a turning point for hip-hop.
