Conflict is something people experience every day and may struggle with every day of their lives. Shoni a Native American girl who spent her life on a reservation is faced with extraordinary opportunities due to the fact of her amazing basketball skills. She then starts playing basketball for Franklin High and brings then for being one of the worst teams in the state to being one of the best. Subjective Reaction: This piece was unique from the others in that it was comical and playful. It was refreshing break from the slow Gregorian chants and darker themed music. In fact, it had much of the audience laughing. This piece got its liveliness and personality from the choirs dancing and use of props.
The vibrant music creates a totally different feeling of that of the gloomy, mysterious sounds from the prior scene. In my opinion, the sound makes all the
Hamilton and the Performance of America Since its premiere three years ago, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hit Broadway play Hamilton: An American Musical has become widely regarded as a cultural phenomenon. From the first questions it poses in the opening lyrics of “How does a bastard, orphan… grow up to be a hero and a scholar?” to the final notes of “Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story”, it addresses the history involved in the musical’s inception from a uniquely analytical and nuanced perspective. As a performance, it can be argued that Hamilton transforms a historic tale of conquest into a modern one.
Music carries each and every one of us to a new awareness. It can reach to the innermost part of an individual. Music can envelope our emotions from tears all the way to our joy. It captivates and motivates. As I attended a concert on Saturday, November 7, 2015, Lynyrd Skynyrd performed with power and feeling to their audience.
Hearing another person’s music describe the exact emotions of so many people in this world is remarkable. Thinking that there is no way someone could have actually put these thoughts and emotions into words, and knowing that another person feels the same way is a sentiment of unimaginable relief. Different people connect deeply with various thoughts, words, and harmonies, and hearing a song that achieves all of those qualities is a rare occurrence. The purpose of creating music is not to make money or become famous. The purpose of music is to express oneself and let the world experience any angst or struggles together and to help people in need of hearing another person’s voice saying that no one is alone.
Lessons from the Culture Every year we see family emigrate to other countries, and they face many challenges. The stories “Sweet, Sour, and Resentful”, by Firoozeh Dumas, and from “Fish Cheeks”, by Amy Tan, share similar cultures and really interesting stories. Also, both families from the essay share several challenges that they are face when they move to the United States of America. The two families share many similarities; however, they differ in to keeping their culture, showing openness, and teaching a lesson from their culture to others.
The role of music in Wicked Introduction There are various key aspects of a megamusical, and one of them would be the use of music. Music has become a key element of megamusicals, where the presence of song is what differentiates it from a typical play. Reviews by both critics and audience members often use music as one of the criteria for establishing the value of a megamusical. The importance of music in a megamusical cannot be undermined, and it is evident that music holds multiple roles apart from entertainment purposes.
Behind the Swoosh is a documentary about sweatshop labor. As a class we watched the documentary and as I learned more about how Nike was running their business; I felt bad for the people that were working. I could not believe that those people were working hard making that company so much money and was getting nothing in return. Then again, I really was not shocked because I know that they are people that put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into a company and do not make enough money.
People can be blind to the differences there are from one person to the next. We are so fixed in our habits that we forget to think about how every one of our actions is influential to other individuals and situations. As I have practiced thinking like a sociologist over the course of four months, I have practiced looking at the world in a bigger lens rather than my narrow-minded viewpoint. C. Wright Mills coined the term “the sociological imagination,” which is the importance of viewing the world as a whole and how everyone plays a part in it is important to understanding your role in it. We can not just rely on ourselves and our own experiences to know what the whole world is all about.
Without giving her any background information on the Hitchcock Etudes, I told her that I wanted her to listen to this song. I presented her with the video in a public and busy atmosphere, then after listening asked her what she thought. Overall, she enjoyed the piece. She felt that Lizeé expanded on the terror that Hitchcock created by using his intense cuts and repetition in audio and video. In her words, “These changes in the once familiar create a tension and anxiety in the piece.
The orchestra maintained the musical score and provided ornamentation and emphasized the melodic contour of the singer’s vocal line. Without reading the subtitles, there is such emotion and energy in the male singer’s performance that it is easy to see, along with the physical positioning and facial expressions of the female performer, that there is an impassioned dialogue being given from him to
But for the most part the actors were very humorous and could be heard when the music wasn’t playing. Another part is allowing the clowns of the play to come out during intermission and before the play started. It allowed the audience to interact with the cast
so it was easier to pick out certain aspects like melody, tempo, and dynamics for example. Overall, this concert was very enjoyable and performed
From beginning to end, I am captivated by the music. Each element brings a unique character to the overall piece. The music takes the listener on a suspenseful journey. The arrangement of the song gives me a visual of someone stumbling upon a dark forest and begins to hear the fast-approaching movement of something behind them. The pairing of several melodic phrases throughout the composition adds to the sense of chaos and turbulence.
