I strive to be someone who uses music to serve and empower other. Music transforms our lives for the better, which is why I feel personally connected to Founder Janet Daniels Schenck. It is with this commitment to growth and diversity that I am excited to submit my application for the position of Associate Vice President for Strategic Innovation and Special Initiative at the Manhattan School of Music (MSM).

As a member of Sphinx LEAD, I am deeply entrenched in the issues of the performing arts field. From conversations with industry leaders to experiential learning with a community of Black and Brown arts leaders, I find myself even more dedicated to move our field forward. The program has taught me so much, including the importance of relationship building. This particular learning is a value I have taken to my current occupation. At Orchestra Lumos, where I currently serve as the Director of Learning and Community Engagement, I have spent the past season developing a strong relationship with Building One Community, an immigration resource center …show more content…

To do this effectively at Orchestra Lumos, I had to be in sync with the President and CEO’s position and understand the Music Director’s vision. An example of this synergy is the An Evening of Klezmer project, which was a collaboration between a Lumos board member, a donor, and the music director. This project began as a music program from the board and music director and changed to a community project with amazing results. My ability to be detail-oriented and structure a project with all aspects in mind – schedules, briefs, evaluations, reports – allowed the organization to debut a new model for mission-driven work. I am confident I will be able to listen, analyze, and present valuable information for MSM as we advance our excellence in education, performance, and creative
