Strawberry Spring, The Tell-Tale Heart, And The Yellow Wallpaper

Suspicions of Characters I always wondered what it would be like if I was mentally insane, seems to me that some people don’t even know their insane. In class we have read, Strawberry Spring by Stephen King, The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe, and The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. These main characters face many challenges that go on in their heads and sometimes they cannot control their actions. Anyone can argue that each Character is mentally ill, but only one takes it to a whole other level. The narrator from Strawberry Spring is the most unreliable to me because he is not aware that he is the killer. The women in The Yellow Wallpaper can also be a very negative source as well because she says, “As soon as it was moonlight and that poor thing began to crawl and shake the pattern, I got up and ran to help her.” She is imagining a women running around and messing up the pattern on the wall and wanted to help her rip down the pattern. Even though she is in a mental institution, she knows she is there to get help. On the other hand, the narrator from Strawberry Spring is more unreliable because he does not know he is insane. He states, “For me it was one of the most beautiful nights I can remember. The people I passed under the haloed streetlights were murmuring shadows all of them seemed to be lovers, walking with hands and eyes linked.” He is acting very strange towards this part in the story, he is imaging random shadows as people which gives us an idea he could have a mental problem. He talks about how fascinated he is by these strawberry springs that happen every eight years, a bunch of people are murdered and he does not seem to care about them just the mystery of the murder. “But the fog was is accomplice and it was female. . .or so it seemed to me. It was if our little school was caught between them, squeezed in some crazy lovers embrace” He has a romantic connection with the fog, he just waits around
