Life’s directing factors play an important and crucial role in the psychological reasoning of the different life patterns and destiny of every individual. The theory of Determinism holds that the existence of every human being is a result of continuous series of interactions influenced by the positive or negative factors brought about by our genes, and the good or bad consequences of life’s experiences. Naturally, people will always avoid what they find painful or unpleasant. Hence , the concept of Determinism suggests that what we do and think since predetermined, makes the whole concept of morality an illusion and simply illogical. Honderich said. “We have a kind of life-hope which is incompatible with a belief in determinism. It is the view that we do have free will. Our past choices have lead us up to the present, and our decisions will help shape our future. We are and should be accountable for our actions and we should have control, thus, we should be praised or punished accordingly.
Galen Strawson proposed a standard argument against Free Will with the hope of convincing everyone that Free Will and moral responsibility does not exist and will never co- exist. He does think that free will is incompatible with determinism, but also thinks that it’s incompatible with indeterminism. To him, Free Will does equate with freedom of argument and that moral responsibility accompanies it. Such concept brought confusion to everyone ”s definition of being free and being responsible in that it did not gain the interest of the philosophical gurus although they feel there is nothing wrong with it.
