I. INTRODUCTION This report discusses the strengths and weaknesses of the Dairy Industry on a global basis and to study the viability of a Dairy project, taking into account the five competitive forces of Michael Porter’s Model. The main competitive forces and factors within those forces will determine the feasibility and potential profitability in a Dairy project. Secondary data has been collected from different websites to furnish the details. An overall understanding of the effect of competitors, threat of substitutes, bargaining power of both suppliers and customers, feasibility of new entrants into the market can be obtained.
II. DAIRY INDUSTRY Dairy Industry deals with the harvesting or processing (or both) of animal milk – mostly from cows or goats, but also from buffaloes, sheep, horses or camels for human consumption. As an attributive, the word dairy refers to milk-based products, derivatives and processes, and the animals and workers involved in their production: for example dairy cattle, dairy goat. A dairy farm produces milk and a dairy factory processes it into a variety of dairy products. These establishments constitute the global dairy industry, a component of the food industry. The various dairy products are,
• Cream and butter
• Skimmed milk
• Casein
• Cheese
• Whey
• Yogurt
• Milk powders
• Other milk products like Kumis
