Strength Of Numeracy

As a means of self-reflection, and so as to gage an overview of my strengths and weaknesses, I have completed two practise papers, “Numeracy Practise Paper 3” and “Literacy Practise Paper 2”. As a student of EDU114 it is important to demonstrate that I have proficient numeracy and literacy skills. In the future I wish to commence employment teaching secondary English, and as such need to be aware of the importance of both literacy and numeracy within the classroom. Through this task I have become more aware of my specific areas of deficiency, as well as my current strengths, and am now able to tailor pathways for myself so as to become better prepared for my role as a future educator.

Both have their place within all subjects, and it is important that teachers not neglect to incorporate both Literacy and Numeracy into their classrooms. The importance of capable Literacy within English is undoubtedly central. According to the Australian Curriculum (2010), literacy within English involves “students listening to, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating oral, print, visual and digital texts, and using and modifying language for different purposes in a range of contexts”. In turn, these skills allow students to become active and effective members of society. Within professional and education contexts it is immensely important that individuals be able to produce sophisticated texts, a skill without which would make it difficult to find high level employment.
