Starting where the client is means that the clinician must avoid judgments, must listen carefully to discern what the client is feeling and thinking and not to step either too far away, or move too quickly ahead to where she/he think the client needs to be at (Benatar, 2011). I then add all the points I want to address in my paper. After regaining my thoughts, I start thinking about my audience and what message I want to send out. After sorting out my ideas and constructing the paper, I compose a thesis statement, which acts fundamentally as the theme sentence of my paper. I then start to form my points and thesis statement into a more structured outline.

I know I have the ability to improve those skills in terms of developing my weak areas in the research process and ensuring the theories involved in my ability to write. For instance, I know that my writing skills are an important process of dissertation, and it requires various formats that must be adhered to as it relates to the APA style of writing and the required skills but forth by the Walden University. My plan for improving these skills is to use my time wisely by preparing my weekly assignment in advance. I have developed a chart with due dates for each assignment.
In writing a successful paper, there are 4 key steps. The first step is to make a strong, clear statement on what the paper is going to be about. The topic needs to be easily understood. The paper should have facts that can be researched and have legitimate sources. The main topic of a paper should develop the original statement, state facts and promote the idea.
This took my writing to a new level because I was able to go back, connect my ideas together, and then “assert quotes” to help me “explain” and answer “how” and “why” in my papers. Carrying this into junior, I have learned how powerful and insightful written texts and language could be through the “intro to rhetoric” and the “close reading” packets we have done, practicing “SOAPSTone.” I have prominently observed myself enhance and improve my writing through English class sophomore year and up to this point, not only through improving grades, but by noticing myself being able to express my thoughts and ideas precisely and an organized way. From the beginning of the year to now my writing skills have developed a lot. My vocabulary has expanded quite a bit throughout the year. My writing use to not flow as well and was not very organized. The vocabulary that I had been using was extremely simple in all my essays before Ap Lang. My initial strengths were reading and memorizing things which came in handy for vocabulary notebook.
1. Throughout my experience in college, this is my first completely focused writing class. I took quite a lot of various English and Literature classes, but not one dedicated to only writing. Despite this notion, I believe that my writing skills are fairly adequate, though it depends on the type of writing I am tasked to complete. I feel I am really strong at writing that exemplifies strong visual imagery and minute detail.
Since I grow up speaking Chinese, I accepted the fact that my second language will never be as good as my first. I didn’t even bother to improve myself since I still had a passing grade for English in high school. I told myself that I have only started learning English a few years ago and I will get better within time. However, I have not improved as much as I hoped to because I never identified my problems as a writer. After taking College Writing R1A class, I finally discovered my weaknesses.
When writing a paper you need to know how persuade, inform and entertain your audience. Knowing this information will help you as you are writing your paper. For instance when I’m writing my papers I want the audience not to get lost in what I’m writing.it has an big impact on how you write your paper I like to keep my audience wondering on what’s going to happen next. Like before you start writing take some time to actually ask yourself who is my audience and what do they like. Because those are some important things in writing a paper or essay.
Having completed the shape test it has become apparent that I am a Squiggly Triangle – as a result the following are my strengths and weaknesses: Strengths: • I like to get to the point quickly with minimal fuss involved • I use positive language • I like to create a vision for the team • I am able to present to groups • I focus on goals and objectives Weaknesses: • I can often find it difficult to understand the feelings of others • Listening to others can sometimes prove difficult • I struggle to connect to people who are maybe not as imaginative as myself • I can sometimes divert from set agendas • Meeting deadlines can often prove difficult A box is good at following an agenda, focusing meetings on the detail and presenting in a calm
On account of every person has their own background, personalities, styles, and experience, the way we write may be extremely different. I, myself, do not really follow any formal writing method, but depending on the topic of each writing assignment to choose the suitable process. I usually try to find common points between what I am writing about and what I have experienced or have knowledge about. Moreover, doing a quick research about the topic also helps me to understand more about what I suppose to write. As an international student, English is not my mother tongue.
Throughout my few weeks of taking this english course I have had time to reflect on my writing skills and I believe that I definitely have room for improvement. While my writing is not terrible it isn’t where I would like for it to be, and as of now I would prefer to be at the level of a college student. It is going to take a lot of hard work to get to where I want to be at, but with everything that I have learned throughout this course I think it may not be as tough as I thought. As a writer I believe that trying to go above and beyond what is asked, creating really strong proposal are my strength, but trying to go above and beyond, and not being able to execute it properly is my biggest mistake. Whenever I write I often think ahead of what I want to write and the apply it to my paper, but sometimes in the writing process I just blank out, and can’t think of the right words to say and which ones not to say and ultimately it leads to an internal conflict on whether or not I should leave it
What is one weakness you have? A weakness that I have is that I can be too empathetic with people. I am an emotional person, especially with certain subjects. But that could be helpful when I am talking with customers, that I will be able to relate to them, and what they are trying to say.
