In the Crucible there are a load of conflicts and emotions but, there are three that really stand out. The three are the act of weakness, the act of courage and the act of the truth. These traits are shown all through the story and have a great part in what happens.
The act of weakness may have been the most significant role in the story. The townspeople were not only weak willed but they were also weak minded. When people were being accused of witchcraft the rest of the townspeople were easily persuaded to believe that theses things were really happening. Some who didn’t believe in these things did not speak up or go against Abigail or the court because they feared going to jail or being hung. Weakness also kept people from speaking the truth which led to a lot of innocent people dying. I think that if the townspeople would of have spoken up earlier and weren’t so afraid they could saved more people or overthrown the court.

Characters like John Hale, John Proctor, and Francis Nurse were brave and had enough to stand up to the court for their wives and the townspeople. Even though John Proctor didn’t have the courage to try and expose Abigail at first he developed it. When his family was put in danger and then his own life he gained the strength to fight against what he knew was wrong. Proctor was not the only person to fight against Abigail and the court. Giles didn’t give into the court and died rather than to give up. Hale who had once believed in witchcraft had turned sides to do what’s right. Francis Nurse battled with the court to save his wife from being hung and although they weren’t able to break through the court they still had the courage to fight for what they believed
