“Remember that stress doesn't come from what's going on in your life. It comes from your thoughts about what's going on in your life.” (Andrew J. Bernstein). The world can sometimes ask so much of us that we begin to doubt our own ability. Sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel just isn’t visible, but only because in our minds it isn’t there. The human mind is a very powerful thing. When the mind is put under extreme pressure, its thoughts can cause the equilibrium in our bodies to be disturbed. To get past that, we have to not listen to the voices in our heads. There are many things in my life that cause me to worry, be anxious, and just be stressed out in general. (BE12) It can range anywhere from a single mother who is finds out she doesn’t have enough money to pay the rent, to a musician who has play a solo in front of large crowd and can’t quite get it yet. In my life, stress often comes from a one major source: school. (SS8) Assignments and projects, expectations and grades, homework and deadlines are things that cause stress (SS6). In my mind, I tend to overthink things, and so doing a simple assignment can become a major problem (BE11). Time is another factor that contributes to the stress. I spend about three days every week at church after school, and the other days are divided up by lifting and other activities. We feel like it’s too much weight, and that’s when we want to give up. We want to say “it’s too much weight on our shoulders, maybe someone else should do it”, but that is when our vision should be looking at the end of the tunnel. It should focus on the light that is there. When I’m really stressed, I always think about how it’s going to be all worth it at the end. I tell myself “other people have had to do much more difficult things and they got it done”. Another strange thing I do, I guess a personal method, is that I think about how everything will go back to the way it was before.
