Gun control has been a controversial issue for years and numerous solutions have been proposed and enacted. The debate sparked after tragic civilian attacks, like school shootings. An example, is the tragedy in 1999 at Columbine High School. Two teens attacked the school, killing 13 people and wounding more than 20 others before killing themselves. Following this attack, numerous solutions have been argued and purposed.
The shootings that have happened in schools throughout America over the past few months has divided Americans on what they need to do as a nation to stop additional shootings from occouring. Many believe that creating new laws on buying weapons by requiring background checks, holding adults liable for the actions of their kids and requiring safety devices on weapons to stop youngsters will stop these massacres in schools from happening, it 's a step in the right direction, however, it 's not good enough nor is it effective enough, America needs well regulated gun laws and the politicians must understand that the laws should be based on facts, not opinions. There are several problems that need to be looked at in order to determine which laws are necessary. According to a recent study, America has the highest amount gun related deaths every year in the world. “Germany, has 371 gun related deaths, France 255, Canada 165, the united kingdom 68, Australia 65, Japan 39 and America, 11,200”.
Should There Be Tighter Gun Restrictions in America ? On the twentieth of December, 2012 twenty-six people were shot dead and only two others injured. The gruesome attack occurred in the morning at sandy hook elementary school in Connecticut the perpetrator Adam Lanzo begin this horrific attack by shooting his mother at 9:30am he then took his mother’s rifle and drove to the nearby elementary school where he then began to open fire on first grade students aged just six to seven and shooting any staff members that got in his way. This resulted in the deaths of twenty children and the deaths of six teachers.

Gun Control in the United States December fourteen, two thousand and twelve, twenty-year old Adam Lanza was blamed for the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. After Lanza killed his mother, Nancy, he drove to Sandy Hook Elementary. Using an AR-15 assault rifle gun, he killed twenty, first grade children and six adults within five minutes. (Pearle) Sandy Hook Elementary School, Columbine High School, Virginia Tech, and University of Texas at Austin are just a few examples of the tragic events that we are reminded of during debates on gun control. It is foolish to believe that having stricter laws on guns will control the school shooting epidemic. With this argumentative essay, I hope to provide multiple sustainable reasons why harsher laws on guns will not stop mass school shootings. To begin, after the shock of the tragic events, the world begins to analyze the shooter’s mental capacity.
Gun Control in the United States Gun control in the United States has become a highly contested topic recently due to the mass shootings that have occurred. The Federal Bureau of Investigation defines mass murder as a murder in which four or more people are killed in one incident (Morton). Over the past decade the topic of gun control has been prevalent in new legislation because mass shootings seem more frequent. Statistics reveal that although mass shootings have not become more frequent over the years, they have become deadlier with higher death tolls than ever before. The firearms and ammunition that civilians are able to obtain since the expiration of the Assault Weapons Ban in 2004 have led to the increase in the death toll (Duwe).
According to the CDC, “Guns are responsible for over thirty-three thousand deaths in the United States annually. Gun Control is a set of laws that controls the use of guns by civilians. The Gun Control Act was signed as October 22, 1968 but was updated in 1993. As of February 23, 2018 seventy percent of people favor stricter gun laws and twenty-seven oppose of them. I believe that the Gun Control Laws should be stricter here around the United States because almost everyday something bad is happening by the use of a gun.
In the wake of the latest mass shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon; which claimed the lives of ten students and wounding nine others, anti-gun advocates have called for stronger background checks on firearm purchases and ammunition in an effort to reduce further mass violence. During a press conference president, Obama spoke to the American people saying, “the routine nature of mass shooting violence in America will continue unless the country’s politics change.” Anti-gun advocates claim firearms are the main source of gun violence and mass shootings in America, the only measure that has the greatest potential of reducing and eliminating mass violence is implementing stricter gun control laws. In the past few months, there have been multiple shootings, including two popular mass shootings such as the one in Las Vegas and the one at the high school in Florida. Some are saying that all guns should be banned and no one should have guns, and that will result in less homicides and mass shootings. On the other hand, some say that there should not be gun control because of the second amendment, self defense and safety, and how it will not change the amount of violence in the country.
Gun control also limits our constitutionally derived right to own firearms. If gun control is enforced, law-abiding citizens will be forced to give up their guns and their right to own guns, while many criminals who own guns may illegally keep theirs. As the saying goes “If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.” Guns are an important aspect of our society in many ways. They allow for protection, recreation, and hunting.
Gun Control Gun control over the years has been a controversial subject, with people arguing for both sides. The 2nd amendment states that everyone in the U.S. has a right to bear arms. Mass shootings and suicides by firearm have been a growing concern for many people living in the U.S. Numerous people making the argument that there should be more gun control. Having gun control would help lessen the deaths by firearms in the country for a variety of reasons.
The number of incidents of gun violence last year in the United States was about 60,000. In recent years, the number of mass shooting has risen to about one mass shooting per day in the United States. The country is divided with some wanting to reevaluate our gun control laws and either ban or add additional regulations to the purchase of guns. Others say it is our right for Americans to own guns and something the founding fathers considered important to put in the Bill of Rights. The number of firearm sales has risen with the number of mass shooting many Americans question if banning guns or certain guns could help decrease the number of gun violence deaths.
