When you are dancing, there are many things you can channel; emotions, memories, people, experiences, stories, the list goes on and on. These properties can be portrayed through movements, facial expressions, and music. Dancing can also portray conflict; such as the conflict between Ponyboy Curtis and Darry Curtis in S.E. Hinton’s beloved novel, The Outsiders. In our dance piece, titled, Hard to See, both the music and movements work in harmony to illustrate Darry and Ponyboy’s maturing relationship.
The quote “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass it’s about learning how to dance in the rain” means that we should learn how to our lives even at struggling times of our lives. There are times when we are feeling down or going through tough times. Weather it’s bad grades or a tragic event. I can make a text to text connection from this quote. In her article, Embodying Difference, Jane Desmond argues that dance offers important insights into the ways moving bodies articulate cultural meanings and social identities. In other words, she explains the importance of studying the body’s movement as a way of understanding culture and society. She has two main arguments. First, she argues for the importance of the continually changing relational constitutions of cultural forms. Desmond further explains that the key to shedding light on the unequal distribution of power and goods that shape social relations are the concepts of cultural resistance, appropriation, and cultural imperialism (49).
Luhramn uses the linguistic system to convey Ken's irritation at Scott's new ballroom steps. Scott thinks he can be free and perform in his own way without being constrained by what the judges, Ken, and his mother want him to do, as displayed by his "flashy, crowd-pleasing steps," which express his personality. In the reading of The Round House, by Louise Erdrich, the characters are at conflict with their inability to leverage jurisdiction due to their identity as native Americans. Bazil’s null efforts to attain jurisdiction for Geraldine’s rape case illustrates how even our core moral values can be devaluated to identity. The way in which Bazil’s authority is addressed, giving him false illusionary power, shows that regardless of occupation, being a native American gives you much less power. This statement creates a foundation for writing, specifically about dance, as each dance piece is always about something, no matter how simple it appears to be. As I began to write about dance I knew not only to provide a description of the piece, but utilize the description as evidence as I develop a possible meaning. Additionally he explains, “There can be different, competing, and contradictory interpretations of the same artwork” (Barrett 73). When I would begin to develop an explanation from the description I provided, I had to remind myself that my interpretation was only one view of the dance and I should not try to provide one comprehensive interpretation for the
Cirque Du Freak A Living Nightmare by Darren Shan is about two best friends, Darren Shan and Steve Leonard, and how they get tickets to see the freak show Cirque Du Freak, a freak show that features unordinary performers such as the snake-boy, the twisting twins, the wolf-man, Larten Crepsley, and his spider, Madam Octa. They each get into some trouble when Steve finds out a secret and Darren steals something he shouldn’t have. The book is fiction, but Darren says, in the introduction, that everything said in the book happened. The themes include friendship, betrayal, and horror. Steve’s life gets put in danger and it is up to Darren to try and save him, but has to make a deal with Mr.Crepsley in order to do so.

This role has diminished through the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, but the need to be masculine remains in countless men. Makeup, tights, and ballet shoes are not considered manly. Therefore, a subsequent stereotype has become prevalent. Persistently, people erroneously believe all danseurs to be gay, weak, and feminine. Frequently, male dancers are left to feel inadequate and are discouraged from their art because their manliness is questioned.
Where the Wild Things are by Maurice Sendak is an interesting children’s picture book. The main character is a little boy named Max, who has a wild imagination. He uses all five senses as well as thought and his actions to express his personality as well as how he reacts and interacts with his surroundings. Max’s id, ego and super-ego are greatly shown in this book through the way that the author has portrayed him. Not only is this book a children’s story, but it can also be perceived as a life lesson.
