Strong Women in Romeo and Juliet
In history women have suffered for a long time however, there have been strong and striving women that take control of their own lives. For example in the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare there are many strong female characters such as Juliet. Juliet can be seen as a strong woman because she marries Romeo without her parents knowing, says no to her father when told to marry Paris, and fakes her death to leave her parent’s life and run away with Romeo. Therefore, Juliet is a strong and striving woman because Juliet marries Romeo without her parents knowing, says no to her father when told to marry Paris, and fakes her death to leave her parent's life and run away with Romeo.

In Act 2 Romeo ends up wanting to marry Juliet so she tells him that if they want to get married that he will set it up and send her a letter telling her where and when to meet to get married. In Act 4 Juliet and Romeo are faced with a challenge in their marriage; the challenge is that Romeo has been banished from Verona and has to leave. Juliet wants to be with her husband and leave the Capulet household but cannot, due to having the marriage in secret and anyways cannot just leave without her parents suspecting anything. Juliet says “Shall Romeo bear thee hence to Mantua. And this shall free thee from this present shame, If no inconstant toy,” (Shakespeare 4.1.120-122). Juliet says “Shall Romeo bear thee hence to Mantua.” Showing that she will escape with Romeo to Mantua and then reveals that if this doesn’t happen she will kill herself so she does not have to follow her father’s commands. Reinforcing that Juliet is a strong woman by Juliet taking control and trying to find her own solutions to these
