The Structural Frame The structure of an organization is the frame that builds and supports the configuration. There is not a one size fits all solution when determining the perfect structure of a firm. It is not as simple as deciding to adopt a framework for your business. Every organization must identify the architecture that is right for them and decide if the change will make it better organized to meet its current needs. My husband is a healthcare professional and I have participated and witnessed those changes first hand. Our business model has evolved and changed greatly over the past 15 years. It takes a great deal of foresight and planning to keep a business profitable through the turbulent cycles. Decreased reimbursement rates by insurance companies and improving technology have been chief issues for our office. As this major source of revenue decreases, it is necessary to be proactive in seeking new revenue streams or decreasing overhead to remain profitable. This shift in reimbursement changed the business model from waiting on the insurance companies to pay according to their contracts to collecting monies due from patients. Technology improved the processes for filing insurance and preparing notes. This improved technology decreased the need for in house billing specialists and note preparers. This procedure can easily be outsourced to a billing company and the doctor himself through a click of the mouse can prepare and store patient files electronically. This swing changed the types of employees needed in our office. It has been an evolving process.
