In “All Summer In a Day”, by Ray Bradbury, the children live on Venus, where it has been raining for seven years non stop. The children constantly wish for the sun to come out. Bradbury focuses deeply on simile to show how the children are longing for freedom. One example of how Bradbury uses simile to show the children’s desire for freedom is when the children are huddled in front of the window to look for the sun. “The children pressed to each other like so many roses, so many weeds, intermixed, peering out for a look at the hidden sun.” This shows how the children really desire to see the sun and run freely, and how people may feel like that too.
