On the cold night of November 17th 2015, the Oklahoma City Community College music program put on the Student Holiday Blues Concert at 7:00 pm in the Bruce Owens Theater. The band consisted of four members that included twins Tiffane Shorter on bass guitar and Kia Shorter on rhythm guitar. Marta Seitz played lead guitar and Sam McCool played drums. Tiffane Shorter, Kia Shorter, and Marta Seitz all sang vocals. The music was all Christmas and holiday orientated and it was part of the blues genre. They played old classic Christmas songs and played music by popular artist like Elvis Presley, John Lennon, and Paul McCartney. The first song of the performance was the classic Christmas carol “Jingle Bell Rock”. The joyous fast paced song had a standout moments with a lead guitar solo. The lead singer, Kia Shorter had a steady mezzo-soprano voice that was complemented well by the backup vocals of her sister Tiffande. The overall tempo of the piece was allegro and it was a great piece to start the concert off.

This song was centered on the guitar more than any other instrument. The drawled vocals made for a somber and moody ambience. The mood quickly changed as the next song was performed. “Run Rudolph Run” by Chuck Berry, it is a classic favorite of many, and had a vivace tempo and a flowing rhythm. The beloved Christmas carol was lively and bright in timbre. The time honored “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee gave audiences of all ages a common favorite. The cheerful and festive tune of the song spread around the room as some in the audience began to sing along. “Merry Christmas, Darling” by Karen Carpenter, had a mezzo piano dynamic and a mellow timbre.
