I. INTRODUCTION Life Course Theory (LCT) is an approach to public health which draws from a large variety of disciplines, such as biology, sociology, and psychology, in order to examine how health and disease develop over the course of a lifetime (1). This lens is used to examine health disparities, examine factors which contribute to the achievement of optimal health, and develop interventions. The goal of life course-based intervention goes beyond the prevention of disease and seeks to create conditions in which people are able to thrive, or achieve their full potential for health and wellness, throughout their entire lives (2, 3). According to LCT, health is dynamically produced across the lifespan in response to behavioral, social, and
Life course perspective is used in social science to help understand human development. It takes into account how a person grows and changes through life experiences. It looks at historical events as well as cultural changes that affect a person’ evolution over their life (The life course perspective, 2003-2018). Life course perspective states that there is complex interaction of social and environmental factors mixed with biological, behavioral, and physiological issues that define the course of a person’s life. Each stage in life exerts influences on the next stage, social, economic, and physical environments and they also have influences through a person’s life course.
The Victoria Government Department of Human Services (2012) stated “the freedom to make decisions which affect our lives is a fundamental right that each of us should enjoy”. The decisions we make in our lives represent who we are and how we want to be perceived by the world – whilst taking into consideration our own morals, beliefs and goals. Supported decision-making (SDM) is a process by which “a third-party assists or helps and individual with an intellectual or cognitive disability to make a legally enforceable decision for oneself” (Kohn & Blumenthal, 2013). May & Rea (2014) stated that “supported decision-making assumes that all people, regardless of their ability or disability, have some capacity to be involved in decision making”.
Situated in a strong competition zone of tourism, it cannot be denied that Australia and Thailand both have perceptions of each other as a Tourism regional rival. We both are well-known tourist destinations with plethora of natural sights, diverse cultures and historical marks; however, Thailand is still far out of Australia in particular of manmade attractions and tourism management. Meanwhile, Australia tourism’s limitation is visitor’s travel relies on air transport, which is one of the obstacles to attract the tourists. Sustainable management is critically needed for Thailand’s tourism which we have talked about it for years, yet we still keep talking. The big problem is located at the tourism policy and its implementation which our people
Introduction Integrating theory into social work practice is essential in defining why social work is needed and how to practice it effectively. This paper will discuss two theories; intersectionality and life course theory, as I believe that these two theories are collectively suitable and effective in interrupting the cycle of oppression. I will draw upon both my own experiences and literature to analyze the strengths and limitations of intersectionality and life course theory. This discussion will exemplify how intersectionality and life course theory enhance each other and can work synergistically to inform my social work practice. Intersectionality Intersectionality is a macro theory, which looks at the complexity of an individual’s identity
Another way to enhance Alvin’s self-determination skills, increasing control over his current and future planning is through person-centred planning. It is basically a problem-solving process to help Alvin plan and realize his future, recognizing his own interests, preferences, dreams and aspirations of his future self. In a classroom context, the way I could adopt this approach is by getting my students to be more involved in their learning. Specifically, for example, I can start by providing them with the list of Numeracy topics to be covered for the term. By providing them with the autonomy to choose the sequence of the topics to be taught according to their preference, they will subsequently assume greater sense of responsibility in their

Deinstitutionalization has not proved successful for all intellectually and developmentally disabled persons, and without substantive investment and reform, thousands of those disabled persons may wind up without resources to care for themselves.
Then how can they do their work by themselves?” Well, if the student has a disability, then it is the teacher’s responsibility to give the student work that is right for them. Then, it is the student’s job to do the work that is being asked. Have you ever heard of an IEP education? Well, if the teacher does a bad job teaching, then it is the student’s responsibility to go to study with another teacher.
‘Conscious bringing into awareness of a greater understanding of both who, and how, we are in the world is known as the process of personal development’ (Parfitt, 2006 as cited by Share & Lalor, 2009, p233). By actively working on our self-development we can advance and progress and not be stuck at a certain point. ‘The social care worker is not practising to his or her full potential if they are not engaged in awareness and development of the self’ (Share & Lalor, 2009, p123). ‘Self-awareness, self-management and self-care are critical elements of emotional and professional competence’.
