study Level B Case 2 b. Assignment Questions: • (4a) The procedural error pattern Elias is doing when he is working on math is he is not carrying the double-digit number when he adds. Elias is successfully able to follow the first steps of addition but does not follow the step of carrying the number when an answer is a two-digit number. He is aware of adding the numbers based on the rows they are aligned. When he is adding, he is adding from right to left, but he is not regrouping the numbers accurately by following the step of carrying the number. The first response he receives from his answer, he does not carry the number in the tens place, instead, he keeps the entire number as part of the whole answer. For example, 18+22 Elias answer was 310. He did not carry the 1 to add with 1+2 which affected his final response. The step of not carrying the number when answering the math equation is affecting his math performance with two-digit numbers. • …show more content…
When Richard is adding the equations, he is able to complete the addition portion successfully. He understands the addition of two-digit number structure but does not understand the place value when he writes his final answer. The conceptual error will be known as a misunderstanding of place value. The place value with his answer is Elias does not demonstrate an accurate response. His final response shows as an additional number in his final answer. For example, Elias response for 83+39= 1112 instead of 112 as the correct answer. The place value of the final answer is not accurate based on the way he answered the question. His final answer demonstrates to be a higher value number than the correct
