It was studying the Tudors aged 8 that I became interested in history and I enjoyed studying it throughout secondary school, particularly studying Queen Elizabeth I for my GCSEs. My interest in the British monarchy led me to read books about the subject, for instance The Plantagenets by Dan Jones, which focused on my favourite period of history the Wars of the Roses. I attended a talk in Kensington Library by Dan Jones who spoke and presented ideas about the Wars of the Roses, the rise of the Tudors and whether Richard III was a hero or a villain. I found this especially interesting because as a student I enjoy discussing and debating different interpretations of the same event. With technology ever changing it is useful to explore digital and online resources as well as books and articles. Living where I do, I am fortunate to have so many heritage sites near me, from Leeds and Hever Castles in Kent to Hampton Court, Greenwich and the Tower of London. I currently volunteer for English Heritage at Eltham Palace, which I enjoy as I speak to visitors about the distant and recent history of the palace, as well as enjoying the regular speeches and events held there on historical subjects. Volunteering at the palace has vastly improved my confidence, and my ability to interact with different types of people from different backgrounds. I believe this will support my studies as it demonstrates my commitment to heritage and culture. I have also volunteered for Age UK in the past, which improved my multitasking, organisation and time management skills. I have also helped out at my college’s Open Day which has helped me in presenting in front of a group of strangers, another thing which will help me at
