Introduction

The influence of religion affects what choices are made in life. Religion is the belief and the worship of a higher controlling power, usually involving a god or multiple deities (Merriam-Webster). Religion plays a powerful role for individuals all over the world, sometimes too powerful, which leads to tension and war. Religion does not define an individual but allows one to view the world differently based on beliefs. With all the religions in the world, the main focus is the contrasting views on three individual 's religious views: Christianity, Catholicism and Sikhism. Three subjects had intriguing responses to inquiries dealing with their religious ideology.

Christianity focuses on the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Subject B believes in the idea of Heaven or Hell after death. Whether one goes to Heaven or Hell depends on how his or her life was lived.

He is drawn to this ideology because of his grandmother. His grandmother was on her deathbed, even though he didn’t have a strong faith in God, he prayed to have more time with his grandmother. For Subject B, God listened to his prayers in his time of need. Surprisingly, his grandmother lived on for one more week, before she passed away on Mother’s day. Praying to God has impacted the way he lives, he now prays to God multiple times a day. Speaking to God has made him feel at ease. Sikhism is the belief in one God who is nor created nor destroyed. Sikhs also believe in daily prayer, live an honest, fearless life, and share their wealth with those in need. It is also a strong belief of Sikhs to avoid the 5 sins; greed, lust, anger, attachment, and ego. The Sikh religion believes that all races, religions, and sex are all equal to God (Introduction to Sikhism).

Subject C was drawn to Sikhism because it dealt with helping others who are in need. Sikhs hold a strong belief in equality of all individuals. In addition, Subject C grew up influenced by Sikh beliefs from her family and is satisfied with all her decisions. Following the Sikh path has made her become compassionate to everyone even if they take it for granted.

Due to following the Sikh beliefs, she believes in charity and always donates whenever she can no matter what it will take. She is able to live an honest life and makes great efforts to avoid the five sins. She follows daily prayers which allow her to get through the day easily. Because of Sikh influences, she has found the kindness in her heart to accept everyone along with their beliefs. Subject C revealed in her interview that the Golden Temple was built with 4 doors, one on each side to signify that Sikhism is accepting to all
