Subjugation Of Women In A Dollhouse By Ibsen

163 Words1 Pages
It was possible, but society looks down upon it. This is why Torvald wanted to at least pretend to still be married with Nora: all he cares about is appearances and how society will view him. The female characters in the story make sacrifices. For example, Nora sacrificed her honor when she forged a signature in order to save Torvald’s life and also loses her children and a luxurious home in order to become independent (Ibsen 1803). Another example would be Mrs. Linde, who marries another man in order to be financially stable instead of marrying Krogstad, whom she loved but he carried a bad representative (Ibsen 1792). This overall role of women essentially created the bridge that linked the subjugation of women with Ibsen’s A Dollhouse theme.
