There is no doubt that crack cocaine is more addictive and harmful than powdered cocaine. Crack cocaine is absorbed quicker in the body therefore increasing the risk of overdose. Crack cocaine has also found to be more addictive in certain studies. After reviewing Hakeem's case, I believe that his sentence was fair. In today’s society, substance abuse is a serious issue that has many explanations as to why it occurs. Peer pressure, boredom, rebellion, etc., are all common examples of why a person uses drugs and alcohol but there is more depth to it. Individuals will often get blamed or judged on the actions they perform and do not usually think of society itself as a factor. After graduation, my curious behavior transformed into high-risk behavior, and I found myself spending time together with individuals who consumed alcohol and participated in using drugs. Doing my best to fit in and with a personal desire to be accepted by my peers, I too found myself using alcohol and drugs recreationally. In my continued substance usage and at the early age of twenty, I made the move to Miami Florida. I lived in Florida through the age of thirty-one years old and although I consider those years to be some of the best in my life, it was a life centered around substance abuse. Often, I went from job to job and house to house.
