Success Breeds (An Analysis of Mead's quote) Congrats! I'm so proud of you! You did amazing! Phrases like this can be commonly heard after winning a big game, getting a good grade, or simply finishing something you started. Success comes in a variety of different shapes and sizes, really just dependent on the task at hand that was completed. If someone succeeds, is it only their personal victory or do other people get to share in the glory of the experience? Is success purely personal or can it be shared within a group? Margaret Mead addresses this question directly. A great example of this can be seen in sports. Everyone involved in sports or on a team is working together to achieve a common goal: win the competition. This is easily relatable to volleyball. As a defensive player, namely the libero, you don't get to experience spiking the ball or blocking from the front row. Other people on the team who were purely offensive players, only played front row and didn't get to see the defensive aspect of the game as said libero would. These are two very different roles on a volleyball team, but our successes were celebrated no matter if the role was offensive or defensive. For example, if the libero gets a tremendous dig from the back row then the front row offensive player cheers them on just as if they got the dig them self. Same can be said if offense gets a fantastic kill or front row attack, then defense would cheer and be just as excited as the person who made the point. Success is shared through the different teammates. These are two very different roles, but when put together suddenly success is experienced among everyone. Celebrating each other success allows for every to be involved in the success, namely of winning the game. This doesn't just go for volleyball, but almost every other sport out there. Basketball, soccer, baseball, football, etc., success can be shared. From the examples shown, it can be concluded that success is celebrated not only through the individual but through other people as
