Philosopher, Italian Dominican friar, and Roman Catholic priest St. Thomas Aquinas once said “There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship”. For you, it's the other way round" (Kidd 210). This statement opens Sarah’s eyes and allows her to escape her mental prison and make a life altering decision to move to the north with her inheritance, this exemplifies how emotional connection helps create their friendship. Lastly, through emotional connection Handful brings an important realization to Sarah. At the point when Handful baths in the Grimke’s tub and says "Yes it's me bathing in your precious tub….I know you're angry Sarah, but I didn't see any harm with me being in the same tub as you" (Kidd 114).
