Prompt 1979 In the novel Sula the protagonist Sula represents many symbolic expressions that are highlighted throughout the story. Readers have different perspectives viewing the round character that Sula plays, although her life was a roller coaster simulation she was in an atmosphere of racism and segregation. The author who uses imagery particularly, visual and auditory to emphasize Sula’s choices which slowly creates a downfall for her which leads to reader feel more sympathetic toward Sula. The author, Morrison targets mainly Sula with difficult problems that many of us will not agree with, however, she needs to do these obstacles such as prostituting herself to receive some income. Although knowing this we can connect to Sula’s rough challenge to do anything to earn some sort of income, but she is looked as an evil, wicked person in her own neighborhood because Sula slept with women’s husbands. Nel was her companion, friend, love, all the characteristics of a strong caring friend, but it was not enough effect on Sula to consider what she was doing was wrong. At first, she thought everything will go simple although she lived in an era of racism and segregation which plays a huge role throughout the novel. We see Nel as a caring friend and as we continue to read we want a change from Sula and to return home because she’s not ready as she thinks she is, Sula calls herself as an “independent strong woman” which she isn’t we see her falls. In addition, the concept of Sula was to live on her own selling her body for money and live the easy life little did she know she was going to suffer throughout her “easy life” because of other characters. However, these characters had some minor influences on Sula which made her consider her actions twice before acting upon them, now we feel a bit of relief to see a character
