Most schools work with a group of school governors. Together they are called the †̃Governing Bodyâ€TM. They are involved in decisions about all aspects of managing a school. From running buildings and budgets, supporting staff and setting standards of school discipline. They help to make decisions about the schools long term goals. They support head teachers, but also ask questions to ensure the head teacher is taking the school in the right direction. However, depending on the size of the school, the senior management team may well be bigger. Other members may include senior teachers with certain responsibilities, for example the special needs co-ordination (SENCO), a member of staff responsible for leading one of the key stages or the head of a certain department. The senior management team has overall responsibility for the strategic direction and performance of the school. They must lead any changes and generally make sure that the school is doing its best for the children that attend.
