High cost of prescription
The other major issues that need to be addressed in Canada’s healthcare system is the lack and inequalities of drug coverage. Drug cost is still a major issue that Canadians face especially those with low income and who have serious diseases such as cancer. Cancer treatments involve home drugs and care that are not covered by the public healthcare system. As a result, one in ten Canadians don’t have the money to fill the prescriptions the doctor writes for them. (Danielle M, 2014). Private insurance and public insurance coverage cover some of the drugs for certain patients and leave the heavy cost for patients to pay on their own. Another example that elderly people face is the home care that they need to cover. As

Some elderly people can survive and perform their daily routine on their own while others cannot due to their age or their illness. Those who fall into the latter category would require extra care at home. This home care isn’t covered and if they can’t afford it they won’t have access to it which will result in lower quality of life. (Simon, 2013)
The solution to the issues
The first step we should take to solve this problem is to look at countries that don’t face the same issue that Canada’s facing and observe why they don’t have this issue in their healthcare system. For example, Denmark, France, Switzerland and Germany have no wait time problems. These countries tend to have more resources and a higher availability of equipment, care beds and health care providers (Viberg, 2013). In Canada’s health care system, the wait time has been a serious problem that needs to be reduced. Some of the recommendations that should take place are building capacity, increasing

In summary, there is no ideal healthcare system that works for all countries. When Canadian and American healthcare is being compared together, both have their advantages and disadvantages. In particular, even though the US healthcare system is able to provide the highest quality of medical services, it certainly has problems, such as the limited number of people that are insured. By citizens only having access to care through insurance, it limits the amount of people who are able to, or willing, to be treated. Healthcare has become an issue to Canadians and it is having a big impact on Canadians health and wellbeing. Waiting time for a specialist or a surgery have become so long that someone could get worse or even die while they’re waiting for their appointment. This thought should be more than sufficient to engage a reform of the system. Lack of drug coverage also has an impact on Canadians life and people are having a hard time paying medical bills because their insurance doesn’t provide the full amount for their prescriptions, therefore people can’t afford it so they end up not buying the prescription the doctor writes. We live in a country where our healthcare is a pleasure and blessing to have, but getting ill has become a major concern for Canadians because they end up not getting the care they need to have, or they wait for
