I read The Paper Cowboy by Kristin Levine. The main character is Tommy, a twelve year old growing up in the era after WWII. The main characters are Tommy, Tommy’s mom, Little Skinny, Mr. Mckenzie, Eddy, and Mrs. Glazov. All his life Tommy has wanted to be a cowboy, but he doesn't always act like one. He bullies many people at school while his family is cruel to him at home.
In the book The Outsiders, S.E Hinton creates a character with a lot dignity, from his voice tone to his posture, everything shows his pride. Even though he is considered to be a greaser, Darry has a personality that most Socs have. First, we can get a better understanding of Darry’s pride through Ponyboy’s thoughts and questions to Darry. “How come you like fights Darry?... he was proud,” Ponyboy asks Darry.
Robert Newton’s novel The Black Dog Gang, analyses the life of a group of children living in the Rocks, Sydney in the 1900’s. Through the protagonist, Newton shows us the hardships that families often experienced and overcame thanks to friendship and loyalty. For the duration of the book, Frankie Maguire, Mickey Collins & Gordon McCallister show that they are true loyal friends to each other and the rest of the gang. Frankie consistently shows friendship and loyalty, whereas Mickey, with a very strong soul, is loyal to those who he considers honourable.
Darry Curtis from S.E. Hinton's the Outsiders is both a Greaser and Soc. Darry Curtis is part of a gang that consists of his brothers Ponyboy the smart and Soda Curtis the handsome, Two-bit Matthews the shoplifter, Johnny Cade the troubled, Dallas Winston the thug, and Steve Randal the car thief. Darry Curtis, the fatherly figure of the gang, has an average physical features, a weird role, and some, interesting personality Darry Curtis is a Greaser, except not your typical greaser.
Darry still feels the same emotions as Ponyboy and the rest of the greasers, and feeling scared, hurt, and lost makes him anything but

Darry is also a hero when he took care of Ponyboy when he was sick. According to the text on page 160 it says “ He crawled over me and flopped down and before Darry came back in with the soup we were both asleep.”
The film Boyz N the Hood is a story about life in South Central Los Angeles. The film was wrote and directed by John Singleton in 1991. I chose this movie because of its relevance to the course and how it reflects pop culture in that time period. The opening line in the movie “one out of every twenty-one Black American males will be murdered in their lifetime” really catches the audience attention (Nicolaides & Singleton, 1991). This movie goes into detail and shows the life of three young males living in the hood of Los Angeles battling a life surrounded by drugs, violence, and questions of race.

After Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally saved the kids from the church fire, Jerry the school teacher said, “Mrs. O’Briant and I think you were sent straight from heaven. Or are you just professional heroes or something” (95). This proves that even though they sometimes make bad choices, the Greasers actually do know when to do the right thing. Also, it shows that they care for and will protect others, and even the adults acknowledge that. So although somebody who disagrees with the statement that there is honor among the lawless would say the Greasers did not respect
Darrel, or Darry has always wanted to become something amazing in life, but sadly when his parents died in a fatal car crash, he was left to raise his two younger brothers, Sodapop, and Ponyboy. More specifically, Darrel chooses his gang over his potential future to care for his friends but sadly, “. . . Darry has never really gotten over not going to college” (Hinton 109). Basically, anybody would choose to finish a career over a more strenuous life of arduous occupations. Of course, Darry would have chosen college over two jobs, but because of his compassion towards the gang, he would choose them over anything.
Given Darry’s accomplishments, it is clear that he would have been a fantastic student and would have made his parents proud. Coming from a working class background, he would very likely have been the first person in his family to go to college, serving a role model for his younger brothers. Despite his parent 's death, Darry could have forgone his responsibilities, since he is an adult and still attend college, leaving his brothers to survive on their own in foster care, or a boys’ home. However, he does not take this option and instead, Darry assumes
Dally A rock-hard hood who never backs down from any challenge. Dally is a character in the book “Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton. The Outsiders is a book where a ragtag group of greasers band together and overcome victories, tragedies, and above all, build an even stronger bond of brotherhood. This story begins in the town of Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Ponyboy(our main character) is walking home from the movies and gets ambushed by a large group of Socs(Sociables-the “popular/rich” clique).
Dally is not strong mentally (when he couldn’t let Johnny go), he really does not do good deeds, and he does not care about any other people than only Johnny, and he’s rude to others and bad at using words. A quotation that supports my statement is, “What for? Get back in here before I beat your head in.” (p.90) This quotation supports my statement because Dally said this to Ponyboy when he hopped off the car and said to see what the deal is when he saw the old church on fire, it proves that Dally does not care about other stuff that does not involve him and that he’s rude to others and using
(1.48) After Johnny died, Dally makes an enormous sacrifice that took away his life. He loved Johnny so much that he couldn't take the fact he was gone. Dally was known to be the most cold-blooded member of the gang but after Johnny's death, he was the one who showed the most affection. Dally wouldn’t have been shot if he didn’t love Johnny so much, and sacrificed himself.
