Interpretations After watching this video on YouTube, some kind of energy came to me. I gained a lot of knowledge about what community organizing is. I saw how willing Saul Alinsky wanted to change community organization at all cost by trying to “restore American democracy through a collective shared public participation in civil life” (ITVS, 2012). He brings in some positivity and determination and on the video, known as a good organizer. I feel that if anyone of us has that drive of accomplishing something, we will succeed. In my opinion, this video is a motivational video and it helped me to realize that even the difficult things in life can become less difficult. That is why it is so vital that we stand on what we believe in which therefore, will make us powerful in decision making especially when it concerns making important decisions in the community. In addition, for a community to stand firm, they must fight against discrimination or exploitation from other communities, they have to become powerful and stand strong to resist any issues or problem directed at them. More so, my feeling to the video is that you can work out your destiny by fighting for what you believe in. Saul Alinsky believed on democracy and remembered what his mother thought him which was “people have to fight for certain people….it is the responsibility of individuals to be responsible for other individuals” (ITVS, 2016). This phrase relates to what social workers do for the people and their communities.
