All God’s Children Need Traveling Shoes is the fifth book of Maya Angelou, who is an African-American female author. The book was set between 1962 and 1965. In the book, Maya Angelou is the main character where she writes about her autobiography. Maya Angelou upholds the African-American traditions and how she travels from her dwelling country, the United States, to an African country, Ghana, in search of her native home. Maya cherished the behaviors of the African people and wanted to feel the sense of returning to her ancestry and uniting with her fellow natives and American returnees. Maya traveled from the United States to Ghana in the year 1962 to settle her son, Guy in the University of Ghana to escape the racism in the United States during that time. She was also planning to continue her career in Liberia. However, upon arriving to Ghana, Guy was involved in a terrible automobile accident and broke his neck. Her stay in Ghana was prolonged due to waiting for the recovery of her son. During this time, Maya was induced with self-pity and began to feel sorry for herself because she had nobody.
