In All Quiet on the Western Front, a historical fiction written by Erich Maria Remarque, the narrator, Paul Baümer, a German soldier, fights on the Western Front. Paul and his comrades, having chosen to enlist after being persuaded by their old schoolteacher, Kantorek, experience first-hand, the horrors of the war, death, and destruction. These soldiers live are, alas, ended by the war, after all of theier struggle. Remarque complexly shows the destructiveness of war by describing the soldiers’ experiences with their past and family, their psychological devastation, and their entire personally.
