All the Light We Cannot See is a novel written by Anthony Doerr, published on May 6, 2014. It won the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and also the 2015 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction.Doerr currently lives in Boise, Idaho. The novel opens in the midst of action.It combines the portrayal of the bombing of Saint-Malo with the characters’ interpretations up until this point to reflect the confusion and disorder of the city as the bombing begins. While the story will ultimately clarify how characters got to where they are now, Part Zero is purposely tense and undefined.

All the Light We Cannot See opens in the course of the final year of World War II. Hours earlier Allied aircrafts bomb the city of Saint-Malo in France, they release flyers that warn the residents to vacate. The story’s two young protagonists,Marie-Laure LeBlanc and Werner Pfennig, are introduced. Neither of them has displaced Saint-Malo. Marie-Laure is blind and without help in her great-uncle Etienne’s house.
