The article “An Attack on the Salem Witch Trials”, written by Thomas Brattle who is a Harvard graduate and a Boston merchant, states a view against the Salem Witch Trials and what they are doing (Dudley 29). On the other side Cotton Mather, a leading minister in Boston, wrote “A Defense of the Salem Witch Trials” which is favored on continuing the trials (Dudley 26). The Salem Witch Trials are a very absurd way to get rid of the so called witches, and should be put to a stop. The article “An Attack on the Salem Witch Trials” stated, “The justices order the apprehended to look upon the said children, which accordingly they do; and at the time of that look, … the afflicted are cast into a fit.” (Dudley 29). The accused witches are forced to look at the children, and if the children scream the accused are imprisoned. Cotton Mather accused many people of witchcraft based off of confessions. This is not enough evidence because these people’s minds have been influenced and changed so much by the devil that they are not longer themselves. They are acting on behalf of the devil and therefore can not be killed based off witchcraft charges. Stopping the witch trials will save countless lives and will also allow the people to help the accused witches with the real problem they have. If these witches are that much of a problem to anyone, why can’t such people just jail the witches. Continuing the trials will only end in more innocent death. If any colonists want to save lives listen to Thomas Brattle and fight against the Salem Witch
