Hazel Grace is one of the main characters in the story and the narrator of the story. She is a 17 year old girl with thyroid cancer, which has spread to her lungs and causes them to fill up with water . She was diagnosed with cancer at 13. At the age of 17 her mom thought that she was going into a state of depression and so she made her join a support group. Hazel really did not want to attend this group until one day she met a 17 year old boy name Augustus Waters. Something she loves doing is reading and her favorite book is An Imperial Affliction. Her favorite shows are America's Next Top Model, Lost, Mad Men and Sex and the City. Augustus Waters is also one of the main characters in the story. The strategies that the author used that I loved was that he incorporated love, devastation, funniness and sweet all into the same story, it added a lot of different emotions to it all . The overall storyline was just outstanding.Something I loved about the story was the different types of people that they used in the way that each character is so different and so interesting and their own way. I loved the way the author gave you information on all the secondary not only on the main characters. Some evidence of all the different emotions is on page 250 chapter 19. ““I can only hope,” Julie said, turning back to Gus, “they grow into the kind of thoughtful, intelligent young men you’ve become.” I resisted the urge to audibly gag. “He’s not that smart,” I said to Julie. “She’s right.
