In the book Drown by Junot Diaz, there was a father that really never settled. Ramon was portrayed as the father figure in the book and it shocked me how he left his family in San Diego, and went to the United States to earn some more money but also did something bad. It 's hard to see when a father with kids cheats on his wife, lies to his father in law in order to secure money and comes to the United states to make more money. It is understandable that when you travel to get a better job and do that in order support a family you would come back to the family and share the earnings. It is cruel what Ramon did because as he arrived to New York and started working but also found someone to have an affair with and forgot about the committed marriage
The lawsuit accuses Nick of grabbing Bobbi Kristina by the hair and pulling her upstairs. He punched her in the face and knocked out another tooth. Nick is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from her Whitney Houston inheritance. He placed that money into his private account. Nick was so controlling or greedy that he allegedly stole over $11,000 of her money while she was in a coma.

DeeJay Santuya Eng 123 05-21-18 Prof Ghori Drown In this collection of short stories Drown by Junot Diaz we see the tales of a young man by the name of Ramon de las Casas and how he grows up. Ramon who also goes by the name of “Yunior” comes from the Dominican Republic, a nation east of Cuba, that suffers from poverty, crime, corruption, and urban decay. The stories in this book detail his life and experiences first living in the Dominican Republic and then having to immigrate to the US.
Laurie Colwin (1944-1992) was born in Manhattan, New York. She was a prolific writer and her very first works were published in the New Yorker. Her first short story collection was published in 1974. Her stories were written about love, relationships, and being happy in general, however, this story “The Man Who Jumped into the Water” is quite a bit different from the others. Hiding behind a persona to get away from reality can lead someone to a breaking point because a person 's troubles catch up to them.
In the first chapter of breathing underwater, Nick Andreas has to go to a courthouse because his girlfriend is testifying to the abuse in their relationship. She then gets a retraining order because she fears for her safety. The chapter ends with a journal entry from Nick about when he first wanted to date Caitlin McCourt. From this entry, his character is very prominent and it's obvious the type of person he is. The themes shown in this chapter are abuse and survival and there are many examples of them throughout these few pages.
Eventually Nick stops trying and leaves the decision up to Trent and that’s when he starts to listen and realize. Throughout the book Nick goes through a lot of challenges. There was a good amount I enjoyed, a few I disliked, but I liked it so much because of the
However, as time goes on, Nick discovers that Jordan hides behind a mask of deceit, and is not really who she says she is. “She was incurably dishonest. She wasn't able to endure being at a disadvantage and, given this unwillingness, I suppose she had begun dealing in subterfuges when she was very young in order to keep that cool, insolent smile turned to the world…” (64). Jordan also happens to be dishonest, that is, cheat, with her career, as well. Her dishonesty doesn’t bring about her downfall, but it does eventually cause Nick to unceremoniously dump her before leaving the tainted streets of New York for
Nick acknowledges her carelessness and warns Jordan, “Either you ought to be more careful or you oughtn’t to drive at all”(p58). To this, Jordan replies, “It takes two to make an accident”(p58). Jordan does not take on the blame for almost hitting a man with her car, she simply makes a quip and changes the subject. She does not truly care for the safety of anyone else. Though Jordan is careless, Nick states she was “too wise ever to carry well-forgotten dreams from age to age”, unlike Daisy (p135).
However, Nick doesn’t question the situation and even goes on to get as debauched as everyone else at the party. Nick’s “bystander complex” is further cemented when he sneaks out of the party amongst the chaos and spends the rest of it with McKee. Socially, Nick wasn’t in any position that would hinder him from offering to help Myrtle or even to stop Tom from abusing her. He was after all closest to Tom in
“If you don 't want to sink, you better figure out how to swim.” (66) This is Jeannette’s father Rex teaching her how to swim by throwing her back into the water after sinking the first time. It is also a good representation of Rose Mary and Rex’s parenting skills insteading of coddling their children they present them with challenging them, some even life threatening, that the children are faced with. Jeannette Walls’ shows very little personal reflection in The Glass Castle though she does show a lot of detail in events, written like a piece of journalism.
This decision has consequences as well. Nick has information that could be useful to police as well as protect Jay, but he prefers to lie. Jordan Baker suspects Nick to be a liar as well. When Nick and Jordan talk a while after the car accident, she tells Nick she believed he was an honest person, but after most of his behavior, she has changed her mind. “‘... I thought you were rather an honest, straightforward person.
Reforms on taxation keep coming up due to changes in law and other regulations that control trade in a country. The tax reform bill of 2018 proposes a permanent reduction of the rate of corporate income tax from 35% to 21%. The legislation has proposed a number of changes to the tax code that will affect both individuals and large businesses (Gentile and Michael 24). Among the various amendments proposed in the bill, a number of them shall affect large businesses. These amendments include the business deduction and exclusion reforms, pass-through taxation and the qualified business income deduction, small business tax reforms, corporate taxes and cost recovery provisions.
The Differences Between High School and College Cheer There are many differences between high school and college life. Between the learning methods that use, the way people act and the maturity of high school students versus college students, high school and college can be worlds apart. Cheer can also apply to sports and the similarities and differences between the two levels of competition. Cheerleading is very different between high school and college levels.
As mentioned earlier, Nick also is really worried about dying. “Some day the silver cord will break” kept
