Cancer had been associated with death and suffering for a long time and even though, the medicine improved in cancer field at the 21st century, there still patient diagnose with all types of cancer. cancer more than any other disease requires long and difficult treatment. Cancer has no respect for age and gender, it can affect any person at any time not only physically but also socially and mentally. Cancer does not affect only the patient but it can affect also the patient family. The book of Cancer Stories on Life and Suffering talks about five different cancers patient during the cancer stages and their experience and how they suffered. In this paper, I will discuss Kay's story, what I learned from this story, what surprised me about the story and any part of the story that was hard for me. Also, I will include how a patient can copy with cancer in psychosocial and economic factors. Also, I will discuss what I learned from the cancer class and how it will affect my practice as a nurse caring for someone with cancer in the future. More than that, I will discuss my experience with cancer as a family member.
I had an experience with cancer when my sister came to visit us from Oman, she did not think that she will stay in Qatar for more than on month. my sister was diagnosed with colon cancer in the early stages of this disease by good luck, as she was talking with me about abnormal unexpected bleeding while she is basing stool. One of my sisters asked her if she went to the doctor she replays “the doctor examined me and he said that it’s just some hemorrhoids, but I am worried because the color of the blood was dark”. In that point, I remember that when we talked about hemorrhoid in one of the classes in the university the instructor said that if there is any bleeding from hemorrhoid, it will be fresh blood so it …show more content…

Some of them were careless they did not take care of their speech or their behavior they did not respect my sister or any member of the family, they thought that my sister or me did not understand English. In point of fact, some time we overheard them when we go to remove the chemotherapy saying “let her go to the emergency to remove it we don’t have time for that she came let what can we do for her” in fact my sister went let once since she lives in my mother house and it is very far from the hospital. but that did not give them the right to act in this way. I believe that the reason behind their action was, they were very tired of removing and connecting the chemotherapy for the patient all the day. More than that, I think the nurse’s action of not showing any empathy or support was depressing more than getting the chemotherapy itself for my sister. The last and the most depress round came for my sister and for the hall family as we can see the fear in my sister's
