With Carrie falling head over heals for Robert Borden, Rose ( aka her best friend and a slave) and another slave Moses, and Roses mama and papa. Carrie's story begin with a tournament, where Robert was riding Granite. She gave him a lock of hair as a token. It was love at first sight, but there was one thing holding them apart, slavery. Carson essentially takes a greater looks at the the Montgomery Bus Boycott as a social equity battle that was supported by numerous respectable leaders different from King. He utilized one of King's well known quotes “When the history books are written in the future, somebody will have to say, ‘There lived a race of people, a black people… who had the moral courage to stand up for their rights. And thereby they injected a new meaning into the veins of history and of civilization.’” Carson believes that it was noteworthy that King was significant figure in the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
The book opened with Tom Spradley, whom was the narrator, Husband of Louise Spradley, and father of Bruce Spradley. Louise and Tom were a very standard American couple with one son that was 3 and a half at the time. At this time Louise and Tom had just newly found out that they were pregnant with another baby and were very excited but they noticed that Bruce began to get sick. Louise decided to take Bruce to the doctors, very unsure of what he may be coming down with. When they arrived the the doctor, Bruce was diagnosed with Rubella.

The book motivates her to seek marriage counseling and she decides to sign up for a week of intense marital counseling with the single purpose to work on rekindling their marriage relationship. Mr. And Mrs. Braddock decide to throw their son, Benjamin, a graduation party. Ben refuses to join the guests downstairs. This causes Mr. Braddock to interrogate Ben as to why he is upset and unwilling to attend the party. Mr. Braddock questions Ben by exclaiming, “‘I don’t know what’s got into you,’ …‘but whatever it is I want you to snap out of it and march right on down there’” (Webb 3).

They fly to Brazil and their wounds are tended to and planes are booked to go home. Will becomes unafraid of death and his situation of the possibility of his parents fighting and divorce. I really enjoyed this book due to the suspense and action.
As they spend the day together, they begin to realize their flaws and how much alike they are. The character I will focus on is Andrew Clark. He is a jock, the athlete on the wrestling team. He seems to enjoy his status as an athlete and has a high self-esteem because of that status. Andrew seems to feel like he needs to protect everyone but is hot-tempered.
