In the Collapse Series, by Summer Lane, Cassidy Hart is fighting a mysterious and evil world organization that has taken over the United States known as Omega. During the first eight books, she sees the destruction Omega has caused and begins to form an effective resistance that eventually secures many regions of California. As Omega begins a massive campaign to crush the rebellious militas, Cassidy is flung into leadership due to the open slot left by Chris Young. Once she discovers the President of the United States is an Omega leader, Cassidy makes it her personal responsibility to kill him and breaks into his base. “Shoot, move, reload. I do it over and over again, systematically moving through the camp, unseen by the enemy. Men scream like scared children when I shoot them” (Lane State of Hope 254). Because of the loss of Chris, Cassidy tranforms into a pitiless slayer. Her soft, loving side has been torn out of her through grief and has been replaced emptiness.
