“Center Field” The book I'm reviewing is "Center Field" by Robert Lipsyte. The book is about a kid named Mike Semak. Mike is a star center fielder for his high school baseball team. His life was going great. He was doing great in school, he had tons of friends, and he was dating one the hottest girls in school. But, a couple of things happened which seemed like curses but were really blessings in disguise. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of baseball or sports in general. Even if you don't like baseball you could still enjoy this book because it does a really good job of showing the life of a high schooler. Mike is a very good protagonist. If you are not a fan of the sport I think you can still enjoy this story because it's not just a baseball story, it's also a high school story because the author did a really good job showing the lifestyles of high school students. I think it's a story that you can really connect to even if you don't like baseball. The overall plot is good but I was expecting the majority of it to be about him and a rival competing for the center field position and the aftermath of a certain event. More in. the second half of the story the plot digresses from that and becomes more about trying to bust the coach for his wrong doings. It left me scratching my head as to why, when, where and how something happened far too often. Although the plot is a bit convoluted at times it is fairly good as a whole. I feel this book has a fairly sub-par plot and supporting characters but the great protagonist is what is keeping this book afloat. Without him this book would not have been a below average book but I feel like the protagonist alone lifts this book up a couple points on a 1-10
