Native Americans have been viewed in today’s society as peaceful and all around friendly. Very few people realize that Native Americans weren’t as innocent as they were portrayed. In Charles C. Mann’s short story, “Coming of Age in the Dawnland”, he discusses the life of a specific Native American group called Patuxet. The Patuxet were a tribe of Natives who lived primarily around Plymouth, Massachusetts. Charles C. Mann makes quite a few references that suggest the Natives were more violent than people perceived. In many cases, Native Americans were treated poorly by European settlers and as a result, fought back. An example of this would be King Phillip’s War (1675-1678).
